Imaging USA {Professional Photographers of America}

By Dan Frievalt

I recently returned from New Orleans where Stephanie and I went for some work and fun. We have never been down to the bayou before and it was a great trip. Being the foodies we are, ‘nawleans didn’t disappoint. We ate at some incredible, lesser known restaurants while we were down there and our favorite was called The Italian Barrel.  Stephanie had the Sea Bass and I had the Porcini & Truffle Ravioli…both dishes were out of this world!!

We also had a great time walking the streets and seeing all the street performers.

Here is a pic of a street band that we loved…

I was also down there for a little work as well. I got to meet some incredible photographers and catch up with a few photog friends who I haven’t seen in a while. I was asked to speak in the tradeshow showing how I use Mark Bryant’s StreetScape Backgrounds. Mark and his wife are super nice people and great photographers. I love his StreetScape Backgrounds so I was honored that he asked me to show how I use them.

You can tell how excited I am in this pic of me in the booth!!

Excited for StreetScape!

I was also honored at the Canon Party as being only one of seven photographers who won the Canon Par Excellence Award in 2011. I had a one in seven chance to win a new Canon projector worth $2500, but my name didn’t get picked…bummer!

I also had my prints on display as winning Platinum Photographer of the Year. They are also printed the the Loan Collection Book by PPA.

I can’t wait to go back to New Orleans, we had such a great time. I will be dreaming about the Italian Barrel until I can return!

Derek & Rachel Engagement Session {Green Bay Wedding Photographer}

By: Dan Frievalt

I had the pleasure of meeting Derek and Rachel through a friend of mine and I have to say they are one fun couple. Of course their look is a photographers dream!

We had planned to do this session as fun session with Derek and his bike and a few shots with Rachel. I got a call from Derek a few days before the session and he told me that he decided to propose to Rachel! He wanted to propose during the shoot and surprise her…soo cool, but a little more pressure on me. I then received a call the next day and he said that he couldn’t wait any longer and proposed to her that night, so cool! I of course had to ask how he did it? So here it is…One of Rachel’s favorite holidays is Halloween, so Derek searched all over town to find a pumpkin and since Halloween was over it wasn’t an easy task. Derek loves roasted pumpkin seeds, so that was the “excuse” for carving a pumpkin after Halloween. He carved out one pumpkin and put the ring inside. Well let me tell you, Rachel found a little more than just pumpkin seeds in that pumpkin and of course she said yes!

The Look

Here is the official press release:
Photographs created by Dan Frievalt of Frievalt Photography in Green Bay, WI have recently won him 2011 Platinum Photographer of the Year and been accepted into the General and Loan Collection of Professional Photographers of America’s 2011 International Photographic Competition. Frievalt’s work will be on display at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, January 15-17, 2012, in New Orleans, LA. This exhibition is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention of professional photographers and several photographic associations.

A panel of eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from more than 4,000 total submitted entries at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Judged against a standard of excellence, over 1,500 images were selected for the General Collection and just over 600 (15 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. Frievalt will have one image in the General Collection and three of his images will be on display in the prestigious Loan Collection. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection” book, and over 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by Marathon Press.

Frievalt said, “While it is great to be recognized by my peers for my photography, I much rather prefer the praise from a high school senior or a wedding couple about how they love their photographs from that special time in their life. I love what I do for a living and feel very blessed to own a business where I am trusted to capture the important events of so many people’s lives.”
Frievalt’s  photographic prints will be in New Orleans at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center alongside other photographic works from PPA’s photographic competition and traveling and special invitational displays. These images constitute one of the world’s largest annual exhibits of professional photography gathered simultaneously under one roof.

Professional Photographers of America (PPA)
was established in 1869, PPA is an international non-profit association for professional photographers. PPA exists to assist its 22,000 members with unparalleled protection, education and resources to ensure their continued success in the photographic industry.

After Dark Cinci {fashion photographer green bay}

By Dan Frievalt

I just got back from an amazing photography learning experience where I was a Photography Mentor in Cincinnati. For three adrenaline packed days I was both teaching and learning new photography related techniques relating to shooting high school seniors to fashion models and wedding photography. The awesome experience is called After Dark and if you haven’t been to one of these amazing events, well you are missing a wonderful experience to learn and expand your photography knowledge! I feel humbled and honored to have been chosen as a mentor for this great conference. Take a look at some of my favorite images that I created at the event while showing my photography techniques.

Dan Frievalt wins Canon Par Excellence Award

By: Dan Frievalt

Its amazing how four images can change my life. I just found out that I won the Prestigious Canon Par Excellence Award! Here the details on this amazing award…

The Canon Par Excellence Award recognizes imaging excellence through cooperation between Canon USA, Inc, and the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). Announced in 2008 at Imaging USA in Tampa, FL, this award represents the pinnacle of achievement at the PPA regional level.

Canon USA is committed to recognizing and supporting the photographic efforts of the Professional Photographers of America. The criterion for this award set it well above awards initiated by other corporate sponsors, and make it highly sought after. It serves as both an inspiration and an honor to participating members of the PPA.

The Canon Par Excellence will be awarded at every participating PPA District Imaging Competition. Every PPA member who enters four images at their designated PPA District Competition is eligible for the Canon Par Excellence, regardless of their membership status with the host association.

Image-Maker must achieve a minimum score of 80 on each of the four entries.

The Canon Par Excellence Award is presented to an individual image-maker. Each image-maker with a case achieving four scores of 80 or above will be eligible for consideration. The District Jurors will consider the four entries of those image-makers as a body of work using the “Twelve Elements of a Merit Image”, as defined by the PPA, as the criteria for this award. The Jurors must make their selection from the original entries and viewing copies or digital reproductions is not acceptable.

EOS Professional Camera and Lens
Each Par Excellence Award winner will receive a current model professional EOS camera and lens kit, the ultimate in Canon SLR technology.

Crystal Award
The coveted Canon Par Excellence Award is a beautiful crystal engraved with the Canon logo and is awarded to each winner in this pinnacle of print competition.

Canon Par Excellence Gallery
Selected images from each winner will be featured in the distinguished Canon Par Excellence Gallery showcased online in the Canon Digital Learning Center
