This past weekend I held a photography workshop at the Aloft Hotel in Green Bay. I had photographers come from all over including one all the way from Iowa! Thanks for making the long trip to watch me in action Mary. I spend most of the time instructing on how to “see the light” with using only one reflector and natural light.
Next I showed how to mix natural light with a cool new product call the SexyLED Light.
After a few hours of working with the natural light we went outside for some off camera flash shots. The weather with the wind chill was about -20 degrees, so we didn’t play outside for very long. I saw an amazing place to shoot in the hotel and I just had to get some shots. That amazing place was in the men’s bathroom, lol. It had this cool frosted glass wall, so I placed a light behind it, which was in the women’s bathroom and another light in the men’s bathroom for fill. I love the look it gave us, some of my favorite shots of the day. It was pretty funny having 12 photographers in the men’s bathroom all taking shots and the occasional flush of the urinal via the motion activated sensors made us all bust out laughing each time it when off.
We ended in the pool area doing a mixture of natural light and strobes. We started in the pool and then I saw the shower which was incased in glass. I put a strobe behind the model and I love the effect of the water flowing on her. I also took a few shots without any strobes, only the natural light mixed with the modeling light of the strobe. I wanted to slow my shutter speed down and move my camera to create more of a dreamy, angelic effect.
We ended the long day of shooting with dinner and Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop tips and technqiues to add speed to processing your images. It was a full 13 hour day and boy I was tired out once I got home and the adrenaline wore off.
If you missed out on this workshop, I will be having another one this spring. Keep an eye out on the Frievalt Photography Facebook page and here on my blog for when I announce it.
I want to say a special thank you for all of the wonderful and talented photographers and models that attended my workshop, I feel honored that you invested in your photography education with me and I hope that everyone walked away with a few more creative insights that will make you more money this coming senior or wedding photography season.
